Uploading 360 Footage

You can create or replace your existing 360 image for a particular location several different ways.

From 360 Cameras

This is the method that provides the best results. Using an off-the-shelf 360 camera or USB adaptor for your phone to capture a true panoramic image.

Make sure that the file is in JPEG format (while the system will accept PNG files, JPEG files are significantly smaller). If your app gives you options, the file should be in Equirectangular projection, which is the most common option for VR display.

You can then upload the JPEG file to create a 360 scene or update the existing footage.

From Photo-Sphere Software

You can use a mobile phone camera to capture a Photo Sphere. This takes a number of still images and converts them into a large-format image that is perfect for ARDI-360.

You can then upload the JPEG file to create a 360 scene or update the existing footage.

From a Video

You can upload a small video from your phone to create a 360-degree panoramic image.

NOTE: This method will only fill in the middle of the image - there will be black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

Method

Stand in the location you want to capture and hold your device out so that the camera faces directly away from you, in portrait orientation, aimed straight at the horizon.

Take note of the location you're starting from.

Hit 'record', then smoothly turn around in a circle, stopping when you get back to the starting position. Changes in speed are fine, but try to keep the phone as level as possible.

The video should be less than 20 seconds in length.

Upload the footage.

For the best results, record the video with manual settings. Changes in focus, exposure and white-balance may cause images to have unexpected colour bands.

From Still Images

You can upload individual images, which will be stitched together into a single panorama.

NOTE: This method will only fill in the middle of the image - there will be black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

Method

Stand in the location you want to capture and hold your device out so that the camera faces directly away from you, in portrait orientation, aimed straight at the horizon.

Slowly turn 360-degrees. The phone will automatically take photos at key points.

Once you've captured every photo, they'll be uploaded and converted into a single 360-degree image.

WARNING: This method will often fail when being used with very close objects - please use the video method where possible, as this is specifically designed to work around this limitation.
