Relationships

Relationships describe how your assets are connected to one-another.

Relationship Types

There are a few different types of ARDI relationship:

Hierarchical: These describe how your system is organised.

Physical: Describing a direct physical connection, or an exchange of product and information (pipe, cable, Wi-Fi)

Logical: These are relationships that are abstract, such as how assets remotely control one-another, or how they are ordered.

Assets have a direction – leading from a parent/source to a child/destination.

Location

ARDI has one relationship that is always included, named Location.

This is a hierarchy that allows you to give a structure to your assets. We advise that the structure should be human-readable, so it’s easy for users to navigate.

The Location hierarchy normally begins with a very general asset (such as a whole building), which then contains other assets that become more and more specific, until you reach individual pieces of equipment.

For example, the main light-switch might be in…

Main Site / Electrical System / Level 2 Electrical Cabinet / Main Light Switch

…which means that there’s an asset called ‘Main Site’ which contains an asset called ‘Electrical System’, which contains an asset called ‘Electrical Cabinet’, which contains the main light switch.

If you’re trying to find an asset and not having any luck with search, you can navigate through the Location hierarchy to find assets.
